At Buffalo Creek Farms, we are devoted to caring for every life we help bring into the world. My dau ghter and I started our Lionhead rabbitry because of our love of furry critters. The joy the babies bring to all our family has been amazing. We have added Himalayan and Persian cats to our home this year and expect to have pygmy goat babies this fall, and in the spring we will be introducing our pure bred Nigerian dwarf goats, but for right now our main focus is our Lionheads. As you can tell from our pictures, our entire family is involved in caring for our Lionhead rabbit herd as well as our persian kittens and goats.
We encourage this so our babies will be happy and well socialized when they're ready to become part of your family. Every Lionhead bunny and Persian kitten born to our farm is held every day from the day it is born. Yes, we even love them when they are not so furry! We take o ur task of being responsible Lionhead rabbit and Persian breeders very seriously, which is one of the reasons we have included a section on caring for your Lionhead rabbit. We will be adding one on caring for your kitten. If there are ever any questions on caring for your rabbit or cat please feel free to contact us. We have Lionhead rabbits for sale in many colors. Some of Buffalo Creek Lionhead Rabbitry's unique colors of Lionhead rabbits for sale include Magpie harlequins, Japanese harlequins, blue eyed white (BEW), smoke pearls, frosted pearls, and broken. Lionhead Rabbits History
Lionhead rabbits are the newest breed of bunnies out there, and it has been a long time since we have seen a new breed. Lionhead rabbits first appeared in Belgium in the 1990's. They were a mix of the Swiss Fox and Belgian Dwarf. The breeding created a genetic mutaion that is the mane gene. After that, they mixed in some Jersey Woolly. No wonder they are so cute. The mane gene, which gives Lionheads their distinctive Lionhead look and thus their name, is a dominant gene, so it only requires one parent to have it to get bunnies with it. Lionhead rabbits are so interesting with their different manes and variety of colors. One of the best things about breeding Lionhead rabbits is never being sure what you are going to get. They have only been in the United States since 1999, when they were introduced by Joann Statler. In February 2002 Lionhead rabbits were first recognized in the erect ear version by the British rabbit council. In the United States there are four certificates of development. The first five colors (the most allowed colors by the ARBA for a new breed) ablue eyes white rabbitre Black, Chestnut Agouti, Tortoise, Siamese Sable, and Ruby Eyed White, but the tort Lionheads have passed their first presentation and sable point Lionheads are now being presented as well.
